Thai Setakij Insurance Public Company Limited was established on 31st January 1942 through the initiative of Field Marshal Plaek Pibulsongkram, the Prime Minister, who recognized the significance of having a Thai-owned insurance company. At the beginning, shareholders comprised both the public and private sectors, namely, the Bureau of the Crown Property, Siam Commercial Bank Group Limited and Thai Rice Co., Ltd.
In 1983, the company separated the life and non-life insurance businesses by transferring assets and liabilities of the life insurance business to Thai Setakij Life Insurance Co., Ltd. Later in 1986, the Thai Rice Co., Ltd. sold all of its shares in the company to the Siam Mineral and Resources Co., Ltd.
On 1st March 1991, the company was approved by the Ministry of Finance to be listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand and later converted into a public company on 1st April 1993. The Capital Fund of the Company has gradually been increased from 60 million Baht since the date of listing till now, the Capital Fund of the Company is derived at 310.3 Million Baht.
During 66 years of operation, the company has continued to grow and expand its business with major changes and developments over the past 10 years as follows :
In 1997, the company increased registered capital form 150 million Baht to 156 million Baht. In 1998, the company installed a Software Insure / 90 system to improve the speed and efficiency of customer service.
In 2001, the company increased registered capital from 156 million Baht to 312 million Baht by issuing 15.6 million new common shares divided into 7.8 million shares offered to existing shareholders according to the number of shares held and 7.8 million shares to accommodate warrant conversion.
In 2002, the company, celebrated its 60th anniversary. Public activities were launched throughout the year e.g. presenting kathin offerings to Wat Trimitwitayaram, blood donation, commodities donated for charity, activities for AIDS patients at Wat Phra Baht Nam Phu as well as a donation for a traffic - light control station construction at the Sathorn-intersection for the convenience of the police and pedestrians.
In 2003, the company developed and introduced a system whereby digital cameras were used to photograph vehicles damaged in accidents. This enabled images to be sent to repair centers/garages throughout the country who had installed a Services Co-ordinating System and thus speeded up the repair process. In addition, staff handling damage claims were supplied with special Computer Note Books to enable information to be sent and recovered from the Company's information center 24 hours a day. This provides a fast and more efficient service for customers and lowers the cost of claims and the administrative workload. This system which is called Video Claim or V-Claim was first introduced to the market by the company.
In 2006, The development of V-Claims was on going to confirm the efficiency of the system. The company has also expanded to handle a large project for the Airport Authority of Thailand - Suwannabhumi Airport which is the biggest Airport in South East Asia.
In 2007, Jointly with EMCS Co., Ltd to modify the claims online systems in order to control the standardized price of both the spare parts and repairing of the registered garages throughout the country.This E-Claims Services provided value added to the policyholders as well as the costs controlled to the loss cost of the company.The Company signed the cooperation agreement with Asia Plus Securities to provide the best services and also the terms and conditions for various Property and Casualty policies offering to the clients of Asia Plus.
